During a long career, Chandler was a business and investigative reporter at the Chicago Tribune and the Chicago Sun-Times. She also served as a Midwest correspondent for BusinessWeek magazine. After leaving the Tribune, she taught graduate students at the Medill School of Journalism and made four trips to Pakistan to train working journalists as part of State Department-funded grants. She later became a visiting professor in global business journalism at Tsinghua University in Beijing.
